Introduction To Beryllium

This course highlights the dangers of occupational exposure to beryllium including health effects (Chronic Beryllium Disease and lung cancer), exposure limits, housekeeping requirements, personal  protective equipment (PPE), medical surveillance, communication of hazards, exposure assessment, and methods of compliance.  The construction and shipyard standards currently only maintain the requirements for exposure limits (PEL of 0.2 µg/m³ , action level of 0.1 µg/m³and short-term exposure limit of 2.0 µg/m3) while OSHA is seeking comments on whether other standards provide adequate protection for workers engaged in abrasive blasting in construction and shipyards and welding in shipyards.
